Frequently Asked Questions

Anti-wrinkle injections or wrinkle relaxers are the most effective treatment option for relaxing overactive facial muscles that cause finelines and wrinkles.

The use of anti-wrinkle injections started off for treating medical conditions but then became use for aesthetic purposes too.

Wrinkle relaxers for aesthetic reasons include treatment for:

  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Crowsfeet
  • Brow lift
  • Bunnylines on the nose
  • Smoker’s lines above the lips
  • Lip flip for curled upper lip
  • Gummy smile
  • Down turned smile and lines from corners of the mouth
  • Dimpled chin
  • Large jaw muscle (for jaw slimming)
  • Platysmal or neck bands
  • Jelly eye roll

Wrinkle relaxers for medical conditions include:

  • Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) in hands, underarms and feet.
  • Teeth grinding or clenching
  • Chronic migraines
  • Overactive bladder
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Uncontrolled spasm of eyelid, lazy eye, crossed eyes

Wrinkle relaxers generally last about 12 weeks.

It is not uncommon for the results to last more or less than 12 weeks in some patients.

It is also quite normal to find the results from the initial dose not optimal or long lasting. Initially, you may require multiple sessions (of 2 week intervals) of wrinkle relaxers before your muscles become adequately conditioned to the wrinkle relaxers.

What affects the longevity of wrinkle relaxers?

  • Your metabolism
  • Strength and size of the targeted muscle
  • How physically active you are
  • How physically active that muscle is
  • The area being treated
  • The amount of muscle relaxer injected
  • Frequency of wrinkle relaxing treatment
  • Heat

As with all procedures, there will be risks and these may include:

Side effects:

  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Mild headache
  • Pain

Risks:

  • Temporary drooping of the eyelids, eyebrows or mouth corners.
  • Heavy forehead.
  • Asymmetry
  • Double vision
  • Difficulty whistling or pronouncing of words
  • Undesired results (needing repeated sessions)

Wrinkle relaxers cannot be given if:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have underlying neurological conditions
  • Known allergy to previous anti-wrinkle injections
  • Medical conditions that causes muscle weakness
  • Motor neuron disease
  • Myasthenia gravis

Dynamic wrinkles are lines that are visible only when face is animated.

Static wrinkles are lines that are visible without facial movement.

Anti-wrinkle injections can only treat dynamic wrinkles. When used on static wrinkles, lines may soften but will not disappear as the lines are damaged tissue.

By reducing dynamic wrinkles, we can prevent static wrinkles from forming.

You can resume work and normal activities after the procedure.

However, there are certain activities you should avoid to help reduce the side effects and risks of the treatment.

Please see “after care tips” to ensure best results and faster healing.

To do your best in reducing the risk of the wrinkle relaxer shifting away from the targeted muscle, for the next 4-6 hours post-treatment, you should:

  • NOT lie down or bend forward
  • NOT massage the treated area
  • NOT take blood thinning or anti-inflammatory medication (for the next few days)
  • NOT expose to heat
  • NOT exercise
  • NOT involve in activities that make you sweat

Due to Australia’s strict TGA laws, we are not permitted to mention brand names or ingredients of prescription medications.

The cost of the treatment depends on how much wrinkle relaxers need to be used on the area of concern.

For initial treatment, repeated sessions (of 2 week intervals) may be needed for stronger muscles. Additional dosage will be charged on the patient.

Please see pricelist from the booking system or come in for a consult.
